Uttar Pradesh has made remarkable progress in improving the road network. Nitin Gokarn has been at the helm of making the road network better in the country’s most populous state. He played an instrumental role in providing unique code for every road in the state. The unique code has made identification of roads easier. Leveraging IT, he has implemented a project called PRAGATI, which refers to Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation, under which information of every road network is present online.
As the Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Planning, he coordinated the Mass Rapid Transport system in the state, Lucknow, Agra, Kanpur and Meerut MRTS as well as Delhi-Meerut Rapid Regional Transport system.
As CEO of National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project, Gokarn played a pivotal role in implementation of strict safety and emission regulations. Under his guidance a number of automotive testing facilities were set up across the country. When the nationwide lockdown was imposed to curb the spread of Coronavirus he worked tirelessly to provide necessary support to migrant workers from UP stuck in Maharashtra.
