K R Jyothilal has made remarkable contributions to diverse sectors including transportation, revenue management, district administration, fisheries, information technology, food, civil supplies and consumer affairs.
He was instrumental in implementing the Safe Kerala Project, introduction of solar boat, EV policy and Hydrogen Fuel cell project in the state. He has been leading the development of key infrastructure projects related to transportation and aviation in Kerala. It includes Kannur International Airport and Kochi Metro Rail Project, which is a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Kerala.
He has led the land acquisition and commissioning of Kannur International Airport. He is also responsible for handling policy matters related to airports in the State of Kerala & lead policy initiatives with respect to connectivity of airports in Kerala to domestic and international destinations.

Shri Jyothilal IAS, a 1993 batch IAS officer is currently the Principal Secretary, Transport Department, Government of Kerala and Vice- Chairman, Kerala Metropolitan Transport Authority. Armed with a B Tech from IIT Madras and MBA from ICFAI, Mr. Lal has earlier been the Collector of Trivandrum and Kannur, and held portfolios in IT, Transport, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Food and Civil Supplies, GAD, Tourism, Devaswom, Parliamentary Affairs, Ports, Aviation, Excise among others. He has been instrumental in projects related to hitech agriculture, Smart City Kochi, KMRL, KMTA, Kannur airport, e-mobility and hydrogen economy etc.
