West Bengal has done remarkably well in areas of maternal and child health. The state has made huge progress on key parameters to gauge the development on maternal and child health. Sanghamitra Ghosh has led this progress from the front. Being at the helm of the National Health Mission in West Bengal for 5 years, Ghosh played a pivotal role in improving health infrastructure and services in the state. She has been working tirelessly for the welfare of the marginalised

Her focus has been to streamline the development work towards the protection, equity and inclusion of populations that have been historically oppressed, neglected or excluded from development based on their gender, age, disability or situation. She has been at the helm of several flagship schemes targeted at social security in the state of West Bengal.

    Sanghamitra Ghosh is an Indian Administrative Service Officer of the 1997 batch, belonging to the West Bengal Cadre.

    In her 24-year career, she has served in various capacities across the State.  She has been the District Magistrate and Collector of South 24 Parganas and Howrah, two of the biggest and most populous districts of the State.  She headed the National Health Mission in the State for 5 years.  Her tenure saw an enormous growth in the health infrastructure and services in the field of Maternal and Child Health.  She is currently the Secretary of the Women & Child Development and Social Welfare Department of the Government of West Bengal and is responsible for helming several of the State’s flagship schemes on social security.
