J Radhakrishnan has been at the forefront of handling major disasters in the state of Tamil Nadu over the years. He played a critically important role in the effective handling of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami that wreaked irreparable havoc in Nagapattinam and Cuddalore districts of Tamil Nadu. He has successfully tackled many such crisis situations in the subsequent years.
When the Covid-19 pandemic wreaked havoc in the state he was brought to the forefront to manage the crisis. Radhakrishnan managed Covid-19 pandemic in Tamil Nadu, which rated among the best states for its handling of the during the second wave when people in most part of the country were scrambling for hospital beds, oxygen, medications and testing facilities.
More of a crisis management man, he has managed crisis ranging from Kumbakonam school fire tragedy saving lives of many and worked our permanent measures to avoid such disasters in public places. On the softer side, he has also been involved in a campaign against practice of female infanticide and foeticide in and around Salem district.

J Radhakrishnan is an officer who qualified for the Indian Administrative Service in the year 1992 by securing and was allotted to the Tamil Nadu cadre. He has held several positions in the state government and has the distinction of serving in the Health department for almost eight years, perhaps one the longest tenure as Secretary in any State Health department and was credited with handling of Chennai floods without any public health hazard and has been leading the COVID control efforts in Chennai and the State of Tamil Nadu. He has the experience of serving as Collector and head of four districts namely Salem, Sivaganga, Thanjavur and Nagapattinam from 2001 to 2006. He was also one of the youngest Commissioner of Chennai Municipal Corporation in the year 2000 and 2001. He was also one of the youngest Commissioner of Chennai Municipal Corporation in the year 2000 and 2001. Has also served as in the Secretariat, Government of Tamil Nadu as Deputy Secretary, Joint Secretary, Additional Secretary and Special Secretary to the Government in the Finance and education departments and also served as the Commissioner Prohibition and Excise department.
